Each pressure cooker made by Hawkins features an inside fitting lid. This design is inherently safer than conventional pressure cookers. To open any Hawkins cooker, you have to first lower the lid slightly into the body of the cooker; and that cannot be done until the steam pressure inside the cooker falls to a safe level. Thus Hawkins pressure cookers are pressure-locked for safety - like a jetliner door!

Amazon and Hawkins are the best. I had used 1.5l and 2.0l hawkins cooker when I was a bachelor and after my marriage my wife continued to use them for next 7 years. Hence I knew this size practically. I found the situation when to own this size again. Wife and kids visiting native while I stay back to earn ????. This new model is even better because of its shape and very efficient. You let it whistle as many times as normally you would for cooking same dish in larger cooker, don't be misled by the short timings between whistles in this smaller one... And people who are complaining of blowing off their lid valves need to think about how much they are filling up the cooker. If you cook food that froth on a regular basis like moong dal, either reduce quantity further or go for 2l model. I speak from experience. Thanks Amazon for easily bringing good products at our fingertips.
