As the god of beginnings he is honoured at the start of rites and ceremonies. Ganesha is frequently worshipped as a patron of literature and education. Vinayaka is a common name for Ganesha found in Puras and Buddhist Tantras. His name is reflected in the naming of Maharashtra's Ashtavinayak temples.
